When we think of health and beauty, our hands and feet often express our inner vitality. Yet, a tiny inflammation around the nail can turn into a nightmare of throbbing pain, pus, and severe distress. Effective nail infection treatment is essential before minor discomfort escalates into a surgical emergency. Across Dhaka and beyond, countless individuals suffer silently from acute and chronic nail issues, often driven by modern cosmetic trends like fake nails and manicures gone wrong.

As the Best Homeo Doctor in Dhaka, recognized since 1978 and founded by the late Dr. Motalib Miah, our clinic—Motalib Alternative Homeo Cancer Sebaloy—has witnessed remarkable healings. Led by Dr. Nayamat Ullah, a 2nd generation BHMS homeopath holding credentials as BHMS (DU), CHME (HU-Jaipur) India, and currently serving as a Lecturer – Bio Quantum Academy™®, Canada – Department of Classical Homeopathy, we specialize in gentle, natural healing that rescues patients from drastic surgical procedures.

In medical terms, infection around the nail fold is known as Paronychia. Paronychia is an infection or inflammation of the skin surrounding the fingernails or toenails. When it strikes, the nail fold becomes red, swollen, intensely painful, and filled with pus. It is broadly classified into two main types:

  • Acute Paronychia: Appears suddenly and is usually caused by bacterial pathogens such as Staphylococcus. It frequently results from micro-traumas like nail biting, cuticle picking, or aggressive manicuring.

  • Chronic Paronychia: Develops gradually, lasting more than six weeks. It is commonly triggered by fungal agents (such as Candida) and continuous exposure to moisture, water, or harsh chemicals.

Key Symptoms to Watch For: Redness and swelling around the nail fold, throbbing pain, tenderness upon touch, pus accumulation under the skin, and in severe cases, detachment of the nail plate.

In our modern pursuit of aesthetics, beauty trends like acrylic nails, gel overlays, and frequent nail extensions have surged. However, these practices carry hidden risks. When applying fake nails or using unsterilized nail cutters, microscopic gaps allow moisture, bacteria, and fungi to thrive underneath.

Improper use of a nail cutter or biting the skin around the nail creates open portals for infection. Many patients visit conventional clinics only to be told that their infected nail must be surgically removed. But is surgical extraction always necessary? Let us explore a real clinical case handled at our clinic.

Case Study 01: Saving a Young Patient’s Finger from Nail Extraction

Recently, a young pediatric patient was brought to our clinic with a severe nail infection (Paronychia). The child’s finger condition had deteriorated severely. Due to improper manipulation—specifically, an attempt to remove excess flesh around the nail—a deep, painful infection developed. The area was severely inflamed, swollen, pus-filled, and exquisitely tender to the touch. The child was in constant agony and unable to use the finger.

Before visiting us, the family consulted conventional medical practitioners and pharmacy doctors. The conventional verdict was alarming: they stated unequivocally that the infection was too advanced, and the entire nail had to be surgically extracted (নখটা তুলে ফেলতে হবে).

Seeking an alternative, gentle approach, the parents brought the child to Motalib Alternative Homeo Cancer Sebaloy. Upon careful examination, instead of resorting to painful surgery or harsh chemical ointments, we administered precise homeopathic treatment centered around Arnica and individualized constitutional remedies.

The result was nothing short of miraculous. Without ever removing or pulling out the nail, the inflammation subsided, the pus drained naturally, the pain vanished, and a healthy, beautiful new nail regenerated completely and naturally! Preventing nail infections requires mindful daily habits. Incorporate these simple self-care tips into your routine:

  • Keep Hands Dry: Avoid prolonged exposure to water; wear protective gloves when washing dishes or handling harsh cleaning chemicals.

  • Sanitize Tools: Always sterilize your nail cutters and manicure instruments before every use. Never share personal grooming tools.

  • Stop Nail Biting: Avoid biting your nails or picking at the cuticles, as this introduces harmful bacteria directly into the nail bed.

  • Be Cautious with Fake Nails: Limit the use of artificial nail extensions, and give your natural nails time to breathe between applications.

  • Warm Water Soaks: At the very first sign of mild redness or tenderness around the nail, soak the affected finger in warm water mixed with a pinch of salt 3–4 times daily.

Healing goes beyond individual clinic walls—it is a community movement. At Motalib Alternative Homeo Cancer Sebaloy, we champion community welfare, health education, and cancer awareness. We proudly invite volunteers, patients, and wellness advocates to join our active community network.

If you want to contribute to reducing medical costs, supporting women’s health, and spreading awareness, we welcome you to join the “MPTCare Cancer Prevention Volunteer Group” via WhatsApp: Join WhatsApp Group.

Felon vs Paronychia

Paronychia is a type of infection or inflammation of the skin around the fingernails or toenails. It causes the nail bed to become red, swollen, and may be painful or pus-filled. It is mainly of two types: acute and chronic. Symptoms: Redness and swelling around the nail, pain when touched, itching or tenderness, pus under the skin, swelling. Causes and types: Acute paronychia: This occurs suddenly and is usually caused by a bacterial infection (such as staphylococcus). This infection occurs when the nail is injured by biting the nail, pulling the skin, or getting a manicure. Chronic paronychia: This starts gradually and lasts for more than six weeks. It is usually caused by a fungus (such as Candida) and repeated exposure to water or chemicals. Remedies and treatment: Soak the affected finger in warm water 3-4 times a day. For mild infections, use antibiotics or antifungal creams as recommended by your doctor. If pus accumulates, go to the doctor to drain it.

Case 01
I am presenting you with a nail infection treatment, which is mainly a disease of ten-year-old children.

A patient came to me with a nail infection. The condition of this patient’s nail was not very good. The area was swollen and rotten. This nail needed to be removed. It was red all around, rotten, cracked and could not be held. The nail was almost falling off.

The doctors at the pharmacy said that his nail infection was due to an infection. His nail had to be removed. He was given only homeopathic medicine. I gave him his nail back completely and it grew back beautifully.

You can visit YouTube to watch the long video of the English version. There are Bengali and
English versions.

I hope you will benefit from this patient’s study and use it as a reference for those around you who have fallen ill due to infections.
